A complete list of Mozart's Chamber Music
Selected Chamber Music
String Quartets
Mozart wrote his first string quartet, "Lodi," in 1770. The next six (k. 155 - k. 160) were
written in 1772 and are called the "Milanese quartets." The six "Viennese quartets" (k. 168 - k. 173)
were written one year later and show a great advancement in Mozart's quartet writing.
The next set of six quartets came 12 years later. Mozart dedicated these quartets to Joseph Haydn.
These quartets, plus the later four quartets, are Mozart's best work in the genre.
